Yangambi awaits! In less than a week we will leave Belgium for the warmer climate of Central Africa. The adventure starts at Brussels airport on Wednesday the 15th of January and we will arrive in Kisangani (DRC) the day after. Kisangani, formerly known as Stanleyville, is the largest city in the Congolese tropical woodlands, and the hometown of our partner institution UNIKIS. The next few days will be used to meet our partners, to acclimatise and to adapt to the African lifestyle.
Our boat trip to Yangambi is planned on Sunday the 19th of January, after which we finally arrive at our research headquarters. During the next couple of weeks, the focus will be on our experimental work in the forest. Sadly, after three weeks, Lauren has to return to Belgium as the genetic work is waiting for her. Jonas will continue the experimental work together with our local partners and will return on, the ‘oh so scary’, Friday the 13th of March.
